As one of China’s key strategic industries, the new energy vehicle industry has been growing fast in Changzhou in recent years.

Last week, a logistics company from Suzhou ordered 100 electric vans from BAIC (Changzhou). Since last February, BAIC (Changzhou) has developed 10 new energy vehicle models and made exports.

Last September, BAIC (Changzhou) was established in the Xinbei District as a manufacturer of new energy buses and light vans. In a couple of months, the company completed workshop innovations, R & D of new models, model tests and sales permit applications. In the first half of 2017, the company secured sales permits for 6 of its new energy big buses and 3 of its new energy light coaches. And these vehicles are now listed in China’s Tax-free Recommendation Catalog and have been exported to Zimbabwe.

In the second half of this year, BAIC (Changzhou) is going to test and launch two new hybrid bus models into the market. And a series of special new energy vehicles are also expected to be developed.

With its focus on new energy vehicles, Changzhou has attracted new automobile projects from Dongfeng Motor, BAIC, ZOTYE AUTO, Chehejia and SAIC-GM in recent years. In particular, Chehejia’s smart auto manufacturing base with an annual production capacity of 200,000 units is under construction in Wujin. These finished car projects have also attracted a number of car-part manufacturers. For instance, a group of battery and new material projects have been established in Liyang Zhong Guancun Science and Technology Park, which has made the park an increasingly important power battery manufacturing base in the Yangtze River Delta region. Changzhou is nurturing a well-developed new energy automobile industrial chain and laying a solid foundation for the growth of the new energy vehicle sector.
