On October 16, Zhou Wei, deputy secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Changzhou, met with John Williams, consul general of Australia in Shanghai, and his delegation at the Municipal Administrative Center. The two sides held in-depth discussions on enhancing practical cooperation.

Mayor Zhou extended a warm welcome to Consul General Williams and expressed gratitude for Australia's longstanding support for Changzhou's development. He highlighted Changzhou's role as a pivotal city in the Yangtze River Delta region, emphasizing its integration into regional development strategies and efforts to establish itself as a globally competitive hub for new energy industries that exemplifies Jiangsu province's high-quality development.

Noting the robust economic and cultural ties between Changzhou and Australia, Zhou proposed expanded collaboration in emerging fields like green energy and sustainable development. He also advocated for strengthened exchanges in culture, art, sports, and tourism, enhanced sister-city relations, and more people-to-people activities to further China-Australia friendship.

Consul General Williams praised Changzhou for its vibrancy and livability, particularly commending its achievements in new energy and smart manufacturing. He reaffirmed the Australian Consulate General's commitment to fostering economic and cultural collaboration, with special focus on technological innovation and talent cultivation to deepen bilateral relations.

Also present at the meeting were Pan Dongling, vice mayor of Changzhou, and Zhou Chengtao, secretary-general of the Municipal Government. During their visit, the delegation toured leading enterprises such as Trina Solar, Zenith Steel, and Changfa Group.

Currently, Changzhou hosts more than 200 Australian-invested enterprises across sectors like general equipment and lighting technology. Following the establishment of sister-city ties with Wyndham, Australia in May 2019, the two cities have developed partnerships focused on industrial and youth exchanges.
