The Sino-German (Changzhou) Innovation Industry Park (SGIP) hosted a high-profile investment promotion conference in Stuttgart on October 24, drawing over 200 government officials, corporate leaders, and academics to explore cutting-edge collaboration between Baden-Wuerttemberg and China's Jiangsu province.
Attendees highlighted the maturing economic partnership between the two regions, now characterized by deep interdependence and mutual growth opportunities. With China prioritizing development of new quality productive forces, German businesses stand to gain strategic advantages in global markets through partnerships in technological innovation, green energy transition, and digital infrastructure development.
Johannes Jung, director of strategy, commercial law, foreign trade and European affairs at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, emphasized that China has consistently embraced technological advancements, nurturing globally competitive companies and cutting-edge innovation hubs. It remains one of Baden-Wuerttemberg's most vital trade partners, with many of the state's companies successfully operating in China. Additionally, Baden-Wuerttemberg and Jiangsu share a strong partnership spanning over three decades.
Xu Yawei, mayor of Changzhou's Jintan District where SGIP is located, outlined the park's impressive growth: "Since becoming one of Jiangsu's first international cooperation zones, SGIP has attracted 78 German-speaking enterprises with combined investments surpassing €2.3 billion. Notably, the majority are specialized market leaders - the so-called 'hidden champions' - that have formed productive synergies with our local new energy and advanced manufacturing sectors."
The success stories resonated with German investors like Thomas Koepfer, CEO of KOEPFER Holding GmbH, whose company has operated in Changzhou since 2013. He noted that choosing China means securing a critical competitive edge.
This year's conference marks the eighth consecutive year that Changzhou has hosted such an economic collaboration forum in Germany. Changzhou currently hosts 269 German-invested enterprises and considers Germany its top EU partner for trade, investment, and technology exchange.
The event underscores SGIP's growing role as a flagship platform for facilitating high-tech industrial collaboration between Chinese and German enterprises.
