In June, Changzhou’s consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.1% over last year, yet a decrease of 0.1% compared to May. Food prices played a significant role in the growth of CPI.

The CPI in June increased by 0.1% on a month-on-month basis. Among the eight major categories of goods and services purchased for consumption, the prices in food, household appliances and maintenance services, housing, clothing, transportation and communication, and medical care and goods for personal use rose by 4.0%, 4.0%, 2.8%, 2.5%, 0.9% and 0.6% respectively; while the prices in alcohol and tobacco, and entertainment and educational products and services dropped by 1.7% and 1.3% respectively.
